Met a retired teacher who sold me a bucket of slide rules for a dollar. If you ever see us dock in your local harbor, I'll give you one and show you how to use it.

c. Bug in silicon; if serial and timer interrupted on same clock cycle, both routines executed, but only one address would have been pushed to stack. So, crash. That could be detected in software, and work around sent to Microchip.

d. Stack is in hardware, only 7 levels deep. So, one level per interrupt. Plus one level wasted for the work around above, left only 2 call levels for the code.

I made this device in 1997;
1. EXOline protocol on RS-485
2. I2C to talk to EEPROM with calibration parameters.
3. SPI to talk to D/A converter
4. 1-wire to communicate with up to 8 external DS18B20 temperature sensors.

All done in a Microchip PIC16C73, which has 192 bytes and 2k PROM.

Challenges;
a. maximum size of EXOline packet is ~240 bytes, so couldn't buffer the whole packet.
b. Each 1-wire has a 64 bit address, so 1/3 of RAM for those addresses.

Does anybody have experience with porting doom to embedded video players like this?
The device has a usb port which can be used to save videos to it.

Hey, we're hiring full-stack web developers for free software / open source / libre work! These are part-time contract positions, but note that for many of our contractors this is their main or even only gig. #FLOSSjobs

Somehow past defenders of liberalism now want an illiberal internet. Don't be surprised. Every generation tends to think the next one can't think for themselves. They actually come to trust corporations more than the people. Please reject that impulse. #fediverse #LiberalValues

In virtue of my heretically archaic views about biology and the importance of women’s rights, I’m the target of quite a lot of rude online behaviour. The other day, for instance, I learnt I was lucky I hadn’t been hanged yet. So you might expect me to be emphatically in favour of attempts to remove what the Online Safety Bill calls “harmful communications” from the internet.

This isn’t the case. In fact, I think the Bill’s proposals on this kind of internet content are a dog’s dinner. If implemented, they will undoubtedly suppress desirable levels of freedom of expression on the internet, and cause more problems than they resolve.

Fedi is the most strange thing in the world.

On normal social media, you write a message and people just ignore it forever.

Here, you write a message, it stays ignored for 1 or 2 years, and then all of a sudden, for no reason, with no explanation, someone finds it somehow, boosts it, and it gets 200 likes and 120 boosts.

What the fuck.

I'm sure someone will boost this message in 2021 or 2022.

#Vegan Burger costs the same at the heavily subsidized cantine in the university as a bigger meat burger at the private shop next to it.

Meat is so heavily subsidized it is cheap af.

German agriculture either needs a extremely green or an extremely capitalistic revolution. Sadly the green party is just talk and no actions. Farmers currently only make a profit because it is subsidized.

The state could just give the money to poor people instead and let them buy food at its real price.

The current state just sucks.
