I just found out that I am "suffering" from APHANTASIA. Didn't know it was a thing, and no idea if it has been an asset or disadvantage. Many times it has been difficult to explain dreams, when I start with "no imagery". Personally I think my brain simply has turned up the image compression algorithm, to ensure that all memories fit in 100 bytes or less.
guys, when explaining the #fediverse to new people, just go with the simplest analogy, e-mail. worry about the specifics later. no i don't care if it's not completely accurate, you can make it more "correct" after the fact. you just need to put very basic understanding into new people's heads, you don't need to go
"oh well activitypub is a yoingus sploingus babingyi"
no just say something like
"say you were on outlook, and i was on gmail. we could still send each other emails right? imagine that, but with tweets instead of emails"
i've used this explanation dozens of times, and people always get it.
Imagine if George Soros had bought Twitter? Former Secretary of Labor, Little Robbie Reich, would be jumping up and down with joy, as would Musk's other critics. I don't recall the outcry when Jeff Bezos bought the Washington Post, the most influential newspaper in our nation's capital. To the contrary, Bezos was applauded for bringing a more liberal perspective to that newspaper.
One of the unexpected joys of the fediverse over other places is the addition of weird domains appended on to everyone's usernames.
It makes the web feel like more than just four websites again.
It's both a signal of a smaller more intimate internet and also a larger and far more diverse internet at the same time!
@realcaseyrollins @lupyuen DMCA isn’t about removing copyrighted information but removing instructions on how to get copyrighted information. Which is why it’s a fucking abomination that needs to be thrown in the shitter.

Also, there are many criteria to take into account when choosing what language to write a project in. Some of them unrelated to the language's objective qualities.
Yes, whether a language has static typing, if it's interpretted or compiled, performance, etc. matter.
But sometimes it's about how many people on your team already know it.
Sometimes it's about available implementations.
Sometimes it's about the tooling you already have in place.
And sometimes it's whether you like the language
Just a reminder that Twitter perceives the Fediverse as a threat, and their project Blue Sky is actively spreading FUD about ActivityPub on their website. https://blueskyweb.xyz/blog/3-6-2022-a-self-authenticating-social-protocol
This is glorious. These are rotary LTE cell phones, USB-C charged, with mechanical ringers.

@alistheponi They said Mastodon are "malware". Not only mas.to but almost other servers related to "Mastodon" were censored and banned from Twitter since 2020. They scared of alternatives. Facebook was doing this, too.
